Chapter One: Whatever you do, don't choose the one on the left!

Chapter one of Shade's Story: Pokemon Sapphire Version!

---/1/---

A truck is racing across the small stretch of land. On it's side, an advertisement reads, 'From Kanto to Sinnoh, the Sapphire Moving Company will take you wherever you ever want, for low prices. Serving Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh for over ten years.'

A small, blue car races along behind it, the woman inside smiling, feeling free for the first time in years.

Back in the back of the moving truck, though, a teenager sulks.

"Grr..." He takes another look at the moving boxes surrounding him, containing his belongings, as well as his mother's and a few of his dad's. His dad. The entire reason he was leaving his city, no, his ENTIRE REGION was that his dad was so selfish, and wanted his family to move, with him, to Hoenn just because of his job. His stupid job.

Shade shook his head. Just like his father to pretty much abandon his family for two years, except for the random phone call every once and a while, then suddenly show up saying he'd found them a place in Hoenn, and they could move in within a week. No prior notice. No, "Hey you should say goodbye to all your friends!"

Not only that, Shade was going to be getting a pokemon from the local professor, Professor Birch, in less than a month! Then, suddenly, he's moving to Hoenn, and his entire life, his entire being, is in shreds.

"Great, dad. Just great."

---/Forward/---

Yeah, I have to stick a disclaimer in here before I continue:

I don't own pokemon. Probably never will. If I did, I would be publishing my books, not uploading them to an online e-book community. Don't sue me. thanks. I don't own hoenn, johto, ETC, and I don't claim rights to anything not created by me. I do claim partial rights to everything I create. Though pokemon can buy it at a discount.

All that disclaimer stuff brings me to Shade. Poor guy.

Wondering how old he is?

Roughly thirteen. Maybe. I can change that if I want.

Now, on to Shade.

I'd like to note that his name's inspiration was caused by a bunch of awesome people on wattpad. You know who you are. Thank yous! :D

First, this is an altogether new book. Not a sequel, not based off of anything. Except the game known as Sapphire. And, yes, I know I'm going to get tons of stuff about, "Why aren't you basing it off Emerald, it's so much better!"

To tell the truth, I don't currently have a copy of emerald that I can use... XD

And, because I really, really, really don't want to restart my current Sapphire game, I'm just going to be doing this off of memory. But I did restart it not that long ago, so my writing shouldn't be that far off.

As well, some of you may be wondering why I named the book what I did. It's just something I managed to come up with :D

Okay. Now, to the story!

:D

---/Back to the Future! I mean the Story! :D/---

Shade sighed as the truck finally stopped, and opened the door, exiting the small, but sufficient, vehicle.

He stretched, and looked around the town.

"Wow. Three buildings? You. Are. So. Kidding. Me."

"Shade, darling!"

His mother walked around the side of the truck, pointing to the house, no, hut, that we were parked in front of.

"This is our new house! Like it?"

"Um... No, not really, it's a little bit of a letdown, to tell the truth..."

"That's just great! I'm so happy that you're happy now, Shade, being closer to your father! I'm sure you'll be making tons of new friends!"

"Um... Hello? The population here is, like, ten. Max."

"I know, so much fresh air, so nice!"

"Just... Great..."

"Shade, I'm going inside, you can have some fun if you want around town! If you go to the house beside us-"

"The only other house," I interjected.

"Yes, yes, I heard they have a daughter about your age! I'm sure you'll be instant friends! Have fun, darling!"

She walked back inside the house, the door closing behind her.

"That's... Nice..." I frowned, turning back toward the building beside our house.

"Oh, whatever." I walked up to their front door, knocking softly.

"Hello? Come in!"

I walked cautiously inside.

"Oh, hello, you must be Shade. I heard about you from your father. You must be so lucky to have such a wonderful father!"

"Not... Really..."

The lady smiled warmly. "Ruby is just upstairs. Feel free to go up. I'm sure she'd love to make a new friend!"

I grinned the best I could, then walked upstairs.

"Check. Um... Poochyena, check. That's great. I'll just check off that on the list, then head out to that other route, the one that supposedly has wingulls around."

I looked around, seeing a teenage girl sitting in front of a deluxe PC computer. She stood up, then noticed me.

"Oh, hello. You must be Shade. Uh... You're the one that wanted to move here, to Littleroot, right?"

She looked at me oddly.

"Actually, I didn't exactly want to move here..."

"Oh, that's good. when I heard that, I instantly thought you had gone crazy. You'd have to be to move here, of all places."

I was a little taken aback by this.

"See, we used to live in the Kanto region, Pallet town to be exact. I had tons of friends, and my dad was taking a course in becoming a professor by the most famous professor of all, Professor Oak. Then, suddenly, he completed the course and we moved here. I mean, I love my father, but hollowing out a little clearing with his pokemon to build a house and a lab, then moving his entire family there... Doesn't really seem that great..."

"Wait... Your dad is the professor for this region?"

"Yeah. I guess famous dads like LittleRoot, then, for some strange reason."

"Ah..."

She smiled. "But, anyways, I must be going now, to do some research on a certain route to the north (^) of here. See ya!"

With that, she ran out of the room.

Shade sighed. Eh, he might as well check out this local professor. Maybe he can get a pokemon from him. Though, if Hoenn's system is like Johto's, it might take him a couple years on the waiting list, just like the waiting list back home.

"It's worth a try," he mumbled to himself. He exited the house, and walked a little bit south to reach a plain, white, brick building. He opened the sliding door and went inside.

"Hello. Are you trying to find the professor?" an assistant inquired.

"Yes. Yes, I am." Shade grinned. The place did look empty, maybe he'd luck out with a one or two month waiting list.

"He's doing some field research to the north of here. It shouldn't be that hard to find him."

"Okay, thanks!"

Shade walked outside, and stretched.

"All right. Let's go find this professor."

Shade walked until he found what seemed to be an entrance to a forest, a gap in a town completely bordered by trees. But, when he walked into the forest, he immediately heard someone screaming.

"GAAAH! Help! OH PLEASE HELP ME! PLEASE! HAVE MERCY! I HAVE A FAMILY! NOOOOOO! MERCY! HELP! AHHHH! NOOO! AHHH!"

A man was standing, backed up against a tree, a small, black dog-like pokemon growling at him.

"You there! Please! Take a pokemon from my bag! It's going to kill me! It's frothing at the mouth! I DON'T WANT IT TO END THIS WAY! PLEASE! BATTLE IT, SAVE MMMMEEEEE!!!!!"

Shade shrugged. The pokemon just looked like it wanted to play.

"Whatever." He walked over to the bag, strewn on the grassy ground, and looked inside. There were three pokeballs, each containing a pokemon inside.

"Hm. Which one should I take..." Shade looked at the bag thoughtfully. For some reason, he felt he should choose wisely.

"Whatever you choose, don't take the one on the far left!"

Shade looked at the one on the far left, containing a cool green pokemon.

"Awesome! It looks amazing! I'm so taking it!"

"NOOOOO!!!!" The professor screamed.

I threw the pokeball, and the dog-like pokemon turned to face me.

"Treecko!" The green pokemon, slightly resembling a lizard, appeared.

"Alright... Let's see you fight this thing! Use... Whatever you can use!"

"Tree?" It turned, and glared at Shade.

"Co!" It leapt at Shade, tackling Shade to the ground.

Amidst his screams, the professor found time to facepalm. "YOU IDIOT!"

"Ouch!" Shade cried. Maybe it was his breath?

"IT HAS PROBLEMS WITH PEOPLE TRYING TO TRAIN IT! IT DOESN'T LIKE BEING ORDERED - OUCH! - AROUND! IT WANTS TO BE A HUMAN!"

"Great..." Shade mumbled.

He stood up, the Treecko standing defiantly in front of him.

"Just great..."

Then the poochyena tackled the Treecko.

End---/1/---End

And that, my friends, could be considered chapter one. I mean, some people might want to call it a prequel. Go ahead. I'm calling it chapter one.

Anyway.

So, making this story has been tough, so far.

And that is why it needs your support.
